Holiday Writing

Yay! The Holidays are here and what a fantastic time to write with your child. I am sure they love the Holidays just as much as you do. So where do you start? Well, I am so glad that you asked this question. The best place to start with your child is to simply ask the question, “What do you enjoy most about the Holiday Season?” I am sure they can give you the long list and from there, you have a writing topic to start with. Keep it simple and fun, and as they are telling you the best things about the Holiday, remember to write along with them and ask extending questions. Extended questions allow the child to think about their story while they add those fun details that will help to bring it to life.

Remember that writing with your child should be fun and memorable and if they are not writing, let them dictate to you what they want on the paper. Don’t forget to encourage them to add pictures to their stories because pictures are an expression of their thoughts too.

Happy Holiday Writing
